Gunny Pearl

The UNCW School of Nursing graduating class of December 2009 has come together to help out a fellow student whose husband was critically injured while serving our country. As friends, community members, and Americans we want to help out and are organizing a 5K run/walk with a BBQ (Catered by Sawmill Grill), immediately following the event, for this family’s benefit in the hopes that it will allow them the peace of mind that for a period of time, money will not be an issue and they can focus on other important things.

The minimum donation for participants is $10 which includes a t-shirt and one raffle ticket. There will be prizes given out to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each male and female participants. The race will not be timed but will have line judges at the finish line.

The BBQ will follow the race and begin at 11am until 4pm. The price of the food will be $5 per plate.  The menu is: Chicken and Pork BBQ, cole slaw, hushpuppies and sweet tea.

Additional t-shirts will be available for purchase, but the only guarantee for a shirt is to pre-register as supplies may run out quickly.

General Information:

Time:

8:00-10:00 check in or registration at shelter 5 in Hugh MacRae park (if pre-registered, you will still check in and get your t-shirt and raffle ticket included in the minimum $10 donation) If registering on November 15, 2009 (day of event) the cost will be $15.00 and you will be provided your t-shirt then. If registering the day of the event, we do ask that you show up as early as possible to get liability forms filled out before the event starts.

NOTE: unless pre-registered we cannot guarantee a T-shirt will be available, because we are unable to determine how many people will show up the day of the event to register.

The race will begin at 10am and NO LATER. Walkers will begin after all the runners have begun. There will not be timers present, but there will be line judges at the finish to determine winners. There will be 6 winners; 1st, 2nd and 3rd for both Male and Female Participants. Prizes will be awarded to those winners.

The BBQ will begin at approximately 11am and last until 4pm.
