Professional Information

Received a Diploma in Nursing from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Montclair, New Jersey in 1976. Practiced as a coronary care nurse for 8 years while attending Excelsior College, Albany, New York. Received a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1987. Moved to Los Angeles, California and continued to work as a critical care nurse. Attended the University of California at Los Angeles and received a Masters Degree in Nursing, as a clinical specialist in cardio-pulmonary nursing in 1989. Moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and worked as an educator at Methodist Hospital School of nursing. Moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and worked as an educator at Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. While living in Charlotte, attended the University of South Carolina, at Columbia and received a Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing in 1999. Currently an Assistant Professor at Winston-Salem State University in the Department of Nursing. Instructional and clinical expertise is in the area of Adult Health, specifically critical illness. Research expertise is in the area of clinical reasoning, specifically fostering cognitive and metacognitive thinking at all levels of nursing practice to promote clinical reasoning.
