Ms. Mechling is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and joined the School of Nursing faculty in July 2006. She received her BSN from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Pennsylvania with a minor in Psychology. She went on to complete her MSN at Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia in December 2005.
She has been in nursing almost 10 years. For the past 6 years, Ms. Mechling was employed as the Assistant Director of Nursing at a residential behavioral medicine center for children and adolescents. She has taught in an LPN program as well as BSN program in the Tidewater area of Virginia.
Ms. Mechling has experience in the fields of geriatric, pediatric, community health and OB/GYN nursing. Her main area of expertise has been psychiatric/mental health nursing. "My true passion is working with abused and neglected children. I am also an advocate for battered women," says Ms. Mechling.
She is pursuing a clinical nurse specialist certification in child and adolescent mental health, and plans to begin doctorial study next fall.
