< home Research Day 2007 The University of North Carolina Wilmington School of Nursing, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and Nu Omega chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society co-sponsored its 15th annual Research Day March 29 & 30, 2007 entitled “Building Nursing Leadership Through Research and Scholarship.” During the March 29 buffet dinner the keynote address was presented by May Wykle, PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA. on "Age Old Health Disparities ." Dr. Wykle is the Dean and Florence Cellar Professor of Nursing at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University. Since 1988, she has served as Director of the University Center on Aging and Health. Dean Wykle is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the Gerontological Society of America. Friday, March 30 Dr. Wykle presented “Leadership Enhancing the Quality of Care for Older Adults." Podium presentations included Dr. Carol Heinrich's "Using PDA Technology to Improve Adherence to Medical Regimens: A Pilot Study with Well Adults in Southeastern North Carolina", Dr. Deborah Pollard's "Factors Impacting Breastfeeding Duration the First Six Months Following Delivery in Southeast North Carolina", and Ms. Marian Deaton's "The Role of Self Efficacy in the Duration of Breastfeeding up to Three Months Following Delivery." Poster sessions and podium presentations were held from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 30 in the Fisher Student Center. The following Research Award recipients were honored:
