RN Access Option Admission
Official review of transcripts at UNCW requires application to the University. However, this checklist is provided for students to perform a self-assessment of earned credits in regards to the prerequisite non-nursing courses required for admission to the RN to BS option.
Admission to the UNCW School of Nursing requires two steps:
- Admission to UNCW
- Prospective students must meet criteria for admission to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and must apply through the normal admission process.
- Allow adequate time for UNCW admission process, and follow-up on your application regularly.
- Among other admission requirements, students must show completion of at least 6 credits in college English and 3 credits in college level Math.

- Admission to the School of Nursing
- After being admitted to UNCW, prospective students must submit an application to the RN ACCESS Option in the UNCW School of Nursing. (Link to the Application Form)
- Admission requirements, in addition to admission to UNCW, are:
- A GPA of 2.5 calculated over all college coursework. Each student's total GPA is calculated on all transferable college courses attempted at all accredited institutions of higher education according to the guidelines in use by the UNCW Admissions Office.
- Current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina or the state in which you will do your clinical coursework. This requirement must be met prior to the enrollment in the first clinical course (NSG 405: Community Health Nursing).
- Minimum 40 credit hours of the required prerequisite non-nursing course requirement must be completed prior to admission to RN-BS option
- Must complete Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Microbiology, General Psychology, General Chemistry, College Algebra, & 6 credit college-level English
- Please note that six hours of college-level English and three hours of college-level mathematics are UNCW transfer admission requirement
- All 58 required prerequisite credits must be completed prior to the enrollment in NSG 415 (Nursing Research).
- Documentation of Physical, mental, and emotional health that enables a student to participate in and complete the program (Link to the Form)

Link to the list of Non-nursing Course Requirements and NC Community College Equivalents: Any needed Basic Studies and Collateral courses could be taken at local community colleges. Students may transfer a maximum of 64 semester hour credits from two-year institutions and/or a maximum of 96 semester hour credits from four-year institutions.
The deadline for application to the RN ACCESS Program is March 1 for fall semester full time or part time students.
