"MIXED MESSAGES - ALCOHOL, SEX & CONSENT"

* 2009 WINNER OF THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS INNOVATIVE PROGRAM AWARD!!

Man w/ Skky Vodka standing over woman in bikini

Is it realistic to expect college students to heed warnings to avoid mixing alcohol and sex?  What are some complicating factors in this type of message?  This program is designed to explore the ubiquitous relationship that exists in the social mind between drinking and sex.  Current promotional media images will be used to get to the root of deeply embedded cultural issues that influence how we view this familiar relationship.  A fun and interactive program that will change how you view advertising!

"REAL RELATIONSHIPS"

Couple kissing in park

We all have many different types of relationships with other people, but there is no such thing as a “perfect” relationship.  In this program we focus on how to recognize our own individual needs and how to communicate those needs to others.  Clarification of “good relationship communication” is a major part of this program.  We also touch upon relationship abuse, how to recognize it, and how to help a friend who is suffering from it.

"ONE IN FOUR - THE MEN'S PROGRAM"

One in Four logog

How would you help a friend or loved one who came to you for aid after they’d experienced a sexual assault?  Some guidelines on what-to-do and what-not-to-do may surprise you.  The group UNCW One-in-Four is dedicated to the education of men for the prevention of sexual assault.  We provide an hour-long program that helps men understand a sexual assault experience from a victim’s point of view and provides men with tools to responsibly help a loved one in need.

"I CARE - HOW TO HELP A FRIEND IN NEED"

CARE LogoEver had a friend come to you for help with a problem that you didn’t know how to handle? Ever get tired of trying to help when nothing seems to change? Schedule our interactive workshop that explores the difficulties, frustrations, pitfalls, and (ultimately) the rewards that come from being a strong ally to a friend-in-need. We’ll use personal stories, roll-playing activities and (most of all) humor to discover how to be the best helper and still maintain your sanity.  This program works as a great teambuilding activity.  Available for Faculty and Staff as well as student groups
