CARE is a campus resource for education about healthy relationships. By aspiring to a campus community that is characterized by healthy relationships, we address not only abusive and violent relationship, but also the factors that contribute to our health and happiness in relation to others.
Family of Origin Issues
Many of us come from families that were not characterized by healthy relationships. We know we want our relationships to be different, but we're not always sure how.
In November, we will have 5 interactive workshops focusing on these issues. Please contact Dee Casey at CARE (962-2273) or caseyd@uncw.edu for more information.
Relationship Programs
Whatever Floats Your Boat: Navigating Your Unique Relationships
This program is about the various types of connections we have with each other and is designed to create discussion about common relationship issues to help ensure that all the relationships we’re involved in are healthy ones. Every relationship is unique and we should celebrate that, but there are also some good guidelines and common pitfalls that we can examine to get the most out of our interactions with others – be they friends, lovers, serious boyfriends/girlfriends, or “I’m not really sure yet”s!
Two Parts Alcohol, One Part Sex – Mixed Messages
Alcohol and Sex – as far back as anyone can remember these two things have been inextricably linked to each. From Bacchus all the way up to present day media influences, the references add up to the idea that sex and alcohol just go hand in hand.
Of course, this connection occurs on many different levels. There is the liquor ad ideal of the “hook-up” culture – go out, have a good time, party, and see what happens - but we also have the uber-romantic notion of a couple sharing a bottle of wine or champagne in order to spend “quality time” together.
This presentation is designed to use discussion to encourage a social self-reflection on what can happen when we mix booze with booty.
Call Adam Tate at 962-7004 or tatea@uncw.edu to schedule either of these presentations.
