Curriculum infusion is the process of integrating
substance abuse prevention content into courses that are regularly offered
across the curriculum. These modules are not a "back door"
approach to educating students about their own substance use; they are
engaging, rigorous units appropriate to the expertise area of the faculty
members. Substance abuse and addiction is a global issue that affects
the world's economies, cultures, and environments. Issues of substance
abuse vary widely among diverse U.S. populations and from international
perspectives. Almost every discipline can address points at which substance
abuse influences their field. Successful curriculum infusion units have
been developed on other campuses in business, social sciences, education,
nursing, the arts, geography, English, and more.
CROSSROADS has a variety of resources and contacts about this exciting
prevention tool. For more information about developing a curricular
unit about substance abuse, please contact Rebecca Caldwell, Director
of CROSSROADS.
