Jeffrey Price was nominated by Tiffany Murdock, who said, "Jeff has been very active in the Student Veteran’s Organization, where he works to make the transition into college easier for military personnel, and was an integral part in organizing UNCW’s first observance of Veteran’s Day. He is still on active duty and drives from Swansboro everyday. Jeff definitely deserves to be recognized as a stand-out among UNCW students!”
Jeff is a 38 year old senior majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He is the president of the Student Veterans Organization at UNCW, an assistant soccer coach for kids and an assistant Cub Scout Leader. He values this family life and his opportunity to attend classes and finish his degree.
Jeff is currently serving in the United States Marine Corp, working to support himself and his family and going to school full-time. He plans on graduating this fall. One of the challenges that Jeff faced coming back to school was how to adjust to a college campus after having been on a combat zone. Having made this transition, he continues to juggle the many responsibilities of being a father, husband, student, employee and volunteer.
Jeff is the first president of the Student Veteran’s Organization, a new organization striving to provide support and encouragement to students who are active duty military, reservists, veterans, and their family members. According to their advisor Elaine Hogan, “his leadership has been critical to establishing the SVO and ensuring its continuity. He also helped to organize what may have been the first Veterans Day event this fall and he was a keynote speaker at that event.”
Jeff serves his country as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Marine Corp. He has recently been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Among many meritorious achievements, the recommended citation states: “Chief Warrant Officer Price upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.”
Jeff is thankful for every person on this campus who knows his name, because as he says, “If they have that much information about me, they have probably helped me in some capacity along the way.” He says that the Non-Traditional Student Organization “has been the most helpful as a group.”
When asked what kind of advice he’d like to share with other non-traditional students, he says, “Enjoy the moment because time flies by. Also, ask questions of anybody that is willing to listen to you because sooner or later you’ll get the response you need to make a decision.”
After he graduates Jeff plans on checking into an infantry unit and heading back to Iraq.
