This dedication did not just begin here at UNCW. Everett’s career started when he enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2001 and served six years in as a legal service specialist in Iwakuni, Japan. He says that his studious attitude is a result of his time spent overseas—as well as his love of “the most important delicacy of Japan: sushi.” Everett also applies his passion in service for his church. He is currently serving as an Associate Pastor at the Rock of Sneads Ferry. He served as a Youth Pastor, Deacon, and minister at his previous churches. He has participated in many marathons, receiving numerous awards for these efforts. As a non-traditional student, Everett says one of his biggest challenges has been travel arrangements. He credits his network of friends, family and professors for assisting in overcoming this difficulty. Everett states that, “the whole Philosophy and Religion Department has been very positive and responsive in helping me achieve my academic goals as a non-trad, and for this, I’m most thankful.” Everett is nearing the finish line in his undergraduate degree; however, he is pressing forward to pursue further education. “I have been accepted to Harding Graduate School of Religion on an academic scholarship, and after this, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Religion,” Everett states proudly. He will major in Religion with a concentration in New Testament Studies. The Seahawk Perch congratulates Everett Caldwell as our December 2006 Non-Trad of the Month. Everett Lee Caldwell is a 25 year old senior, graduating this semester with a degree in philosophy and religion. He nominated himself, and with good reason. Along with his nomination he submitted numerous glowing recommendations from UNCW faculty, staff, and coworkers. Ms. Crystal Lubinsky, a faculty member in the department of philosophy and religion, had this to say about Everett: “One word for Everett--diligence. Another--excellence. I have never had a student before Everett, who, after successfully completing my class with an “A,” comes in every other semester and take the exams for fun and just to review. A true will to learn and know.”
