 Off-campus Appreciation Day / Off-campus Services Fair

The first day of classes in the fall semester is always designated as Off-campus Appreciation Day. This is the day that the Seahawk Perch and the entire university community roll out the red carpet for its new and returning off-campus students! The celebration has a dual purpose: to inform new off-campus (and non-trad) students about the services that are available for them, and to let the rest of the university community know about the special needs of these student populations. Mailings and emails are routinely sent to university faculty and staff with tips about how to include off-campus students in their programming, and how to help ensure their academic success.

The focal point of the day is the Off-campus Services Fair, which is usually attended by 600-700 students. At the fair, students may peruse booths from many university offices, departments and organizations who offer services and programs to assist them. It is a very festive event with great information, prizes and giveaways for students! Click here for more information and photos from previous Fairs.

 Off-campus Coffee Breaks

Every Wednesday, the Seahawk Perch hosts an Off-campus Coffee Break in front of the Perch offices in the Fisher Student Center lobby. Each Coffee Break is hosted by a different on-campus department or organization, allowing students to informally connect with staff from different University entities while learning all about their programs and services. Previous university hosts have included The Chancellor's Office, Career Services, Campus Christian Ministries, The Center for Leadership Education and Service, Crossroads (Substance Abuse Prevention and Education Program), and the Student Government Association. It's a great way to learn more about the University and meet other off-campus students and non-trads, as well as enjoy FREE coffee, juice & pastries! To find out when the next Off-campus Coffee Break is, consult the Seahawk Perch Events Calendar.

 Perch Pit Stops

About once a month, the Seahawk Perch hosts a"Pit Stop" in an area on campus that is frequently Seahawk Perch GA speaks to student at Pit Stop eventtrafficked by off-campus students. It may be a in parking lot, outside an academic building, or sometimes even on the UNCW shuttle bus! You never know where we are going to pop up. Instead of you coming to us, we'll come to you!

At each "Pit Stop" we distribute great goodies and information about upcoming programs and events of interest to off-campus students. Look for the bright yellow "Commuter Scooter."

 Stress Free Zone

Near the end of each semester, the Seahawk Perch sponsors a "Stress Free Zone" Pre-Exam Break so students can have an opportunity to blow off a little steam around exam time and just BE LIKE KIDS again!

At the end of the spring semester, we set up games and provide free ice cream outside the Fisher Center. In the fall, we have free hot chocolate, holiday-themed games, and gingerbread-house-decorating near the Perch. Come join us!
