In collaboration with local apartment complexes, the UNCW
Office of the Dean of Students and the Center for Commuter
and Non-Traditional Student Services have created the Community
Development Assistant (CDA) Program. Community Development
Assistants are UNCW students who reside at several Wilmington
apartment complexes and serve as a resource, advocate, and
liaison for other student tenants.
CDAs provide fellow student tenants with current UNCW information,
mild roommate mediation, and monthly programming, such as
information sessions and social events. CDAs also refer students
who need assistance to the appropriate on-campus resource,
such as the Office of the Dean of Students. This
is a great connection to the university for students living
in an off-campus setting, especially first year students!
The intention of these responsibilities is to foster a University
support system for off-campus students. CDAs are not responsible
for monitoring student conduct; they solely are a resource
and liaison to their fellow students and apartment manager.
In exchange for their services, CDAs receive a discount on
their monthly rent.
