  • Values Clarification: Costs and Rewards                   
    • Costs and Rewards activity
      • Write down on one piece of paper what you would like to invest most and on another piece of paper what you would like to receive most when you are in a relationship.
    • Relationship Discussion
      • What does this world look like?
      • Why are some of these values the same?
      • Why are some of these values different?
      • Why do we have values?
      • Where is the limit of your costs?
      • Where is the limit of your rewards?
    • The Measure Stick:
      • The Presenter assigns values to the costs and rewards and compares to the Comparison levels (C: What you think you deserve. Calt: What you think you can get elsewhere.
      • 4 Situations are explained in which a relationship can occur:
        • The Outcome is higher than the two comparison values: Happy, Stable Relationship.
        • The Outcome is higher than Calt but lower than C: Unhappy, stable relationship.
        • The Outcome is higher than C, but lower than Calt: Happy, unstable relationship.
        • The Outcome is lower than the two comparison levels: Unhappy, Unstable Relationship.
  • Relationship Scruples game
    • Scruples cards are passed around (groups of 3-4 people) with a life situation and a possible action that can be taken. There is no right answer. The reasoning is important.
    • Members of the group explain how they view the situation
    • Ask the questions:
      • Do you find yourself imagining what it is like to be in someone else’s position?
      • Do you sacrifice your values in order to please your partner?
      • Do your values conflict often?

       

  • The Triangle of Relationship: 8 Different ways of love: Example of Hollywood
    • Nonlove: Low Intimacy, Low Passion, Low Commitment: acquaintances.
    • Liking: High Intimacy, Low Passion, Low Commitment: close friendships.
    • Infatuated Love: Low Intimacy, High Passion, Low Commitment: Just passion.
    • Empty Love: Low Intimacy, Low Passion, High Commitment: burned out relationships.
    • Romantic Love: High Intimacy, High Passion, Low Commitment: Summer love.
    • Companionate Love: High Intimacy, Low Passion, High Commitment: happy marriage, without passion.
    • Fatuous Love: Low Intimacy, High Passion, High Commitment: Foolish or Rash love.
    • Consummate Love: High Intimacy, High Passion, High Commitment: Fairy Tale Love.

    • How do your values affect the people within the UNCW campus community? Illustrate using the waves.
