The UNCW Pharmacy provides confidential and essential information to students regarding their medications and their proper use. A registered Pharmacist personally counsels each student. The discussion may include dosing intervals, effects when combined with food or alcohol, and significant reactions, interactions and adverse effects of medications prescribed. Students may also ask questions about over the counter drugs, self-medication, and herbal remedies. The UNCW Pharmacy strives to make proper drug use and drug education part of the students’ educational experience. Services:
Emergency ContraceptivePlan B Emergency Contraceptive Now Available Over-The-Counter at the UNCW Pharmacy The new dual label Plan B® emergency contraceptive is now in stock at the UNCW Pharmacy. Approved on August 24, 2006, the new dual label Plan B® is an over-the-counter product for consumers 18 years of age and older and prescription-only for women 17 and younger. The product is provided as a single package that allows for a prescription label to be adhered to the package when dispensed to women age 17 and younger. For consumers 18 and older, Plan B® is available over-the-counter, but is actually kept behind-the-counter; consumers can go straight to the pharmacy counter, show a valid driver’s license and current UNCW ID card, and get Plan B®. Both forms of ID are required to purchase Plan B over-the-counter. Any student presenting without these ID’s, or age 17 or less, will need to check into the Student Health Center and be seen by a healthcare provider to obtain a prescription. The price for Plan B will be $35, payable by cash, check, credit card (Visa/MasterCard), debit card, Seahawk Bucks (former “Flex” account), or charged to Student Account. |
