Make a difference in the life of a local child. Through the UNCW Kids program, students tutor children at off-campus sites.

BIG BUDDY Fishing
Saturday, October 24th
8am - 2pm
Join the Center for Leadership Education and Service as we partner with the Cape Fear Volunteer Center’s Big Buddy program. Volunteers are needed from 8am-2pm to help with sign in, helping the “Little Buddies” fish, and various other tasks to make this day memorable for the participating children. There will be two shifts for volunteers; 8am-11am and 11am-2pm. We will meet in Parking Lot M beside the Field House at 7:15 for the first shift and 10:15 for the second shift. Please contact the CLES office to sign up.
Pumpkin Decorating at The Village at Greenfield
Friday, October 30th
2pm- 5pm
Join the CLES office on Friday, October 30, as we decorate pumpkins with the children at the Village at Greenfield. All supplies will be provided by the CLES office. We will be meeting in the parking lot between Burney and the Fisher University Union at 1:30 to carpool. Drivers needed.

November 23rd - Deliver Food Basket to Port City Room
You or your organization have the opportunity to be what a family in need is thankful for this Thanksgiving. Purchase Thanksgiving dinner for a local family who, otherwise, would not be able to celebrate this year. The estimated cost for the entire purchase is between $50-$80. Please call the CLES office for further details. Sign-up deadline is November 6, the collection date is Monday, November 23, in the Port City Room by 12pm. Help stop hunger this holiday season!
ANGEL TREE
Make the holidays brighter for a local youth by purchasing holiday presents. Student organizations, university departments and other groups can co-sponsor a youth. The approximate cost is $50 per child. Groups are encouraged to participate.

HUNGER and HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK

Did you know that approximately 3.5 million people, including 1.3 million children, are likely to be homeless in any given year? (Source: Urban Institute 2000). Learn more about issues surrounding hunger and homelessness and how you can help serve this population at our annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in November. Events include the Faces of Homelessness Panel, the Canned Food Drive and the Hunger Banquet.
