NC COASTAL FEDERATION

Volunteer Opportunities:

                 When: Saturday October 18th  9 am to 6 pm

We need your help with staffing NCCF’s educational display on Saturday and Sunday at this great fall festival. We will have displays that highlight oyster ecology, stormwater and the Lockwood Folly River Project. If you would like to staff the NCCF display for a shift on Saturday or Sunday, please contact Mike Giles at (910) 790-3275 or capefearcoastkeeper@nccoast.org

                            When: Sunday, November 2nd from 1–4 pm

                            Where: Halyburton Park in New Hanover County

What: This year you have helped to fill more than 2,000 shell bags, plant more than 2,000 marsh seedlings recycle 3,000 bushels of oyster shell and reach more than 8,000 people through participation at fairs and festivals in our region. Without your help, most of this could not be done.  The federation plans to show our appreciation and invite you to a celebration at Halyburton Park in New Hanover County. You will receive an invitation, but please save the date.

VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA

Volunteers of American is a 24 month transitional housing program for women and children that have suffered homelessness due to domestic violence. We house, provide support services and case management to 11 families.

Volunteers are needed to help provide office support, childcare, cleaning, painting, and handy work.

 

CAMERON ART MUSEUM - KIDS @ CAM PROGRAM

The Cameron Art Museum is seeking volunteers for its new Kids @ CAM program. These days are designed for children and their families to come and explore the museum together and take part in games and art activities. These events take place one Saturday a month and include gallery hunts, child docent tours, and a variety of art projects based off of monthly themes as well as the current exhibitions. We need people who are responsible, enthusiastic, and comfortable working with children to help with the art projects, supervise the galleries during our child docent tours, assist with set up and clean up, as well as help with off site events that offer the museum the opportunity to promote the children programs.

 

MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION IN NC, CAPE FEAR CHAPTER

Healthy Minds, Healthy Chilldren is a program for 6-12 years old intended to teach appropriate strategies for positive emotional expression and social skills.  Interactive lessons include book readings, worksheet/activities, and discussions.

This program will be presented as lessons in the classroom in Brunswick and Pender County Schools.  The volunteer position includes reimbursement for mileage, training, and materials plus experience with a well respected non-profit advocady organization.  

 

COASTAL THERAPEUDIC RIDING PROGRAM

A non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality therapeutic horse riding to persons with special needs. For more information please call Jackie 452-2978, Lucy 395-2515, or Lisa 358-5575

 

YMCA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

-Aquatic Special Pops-the tasks include providing supports during swim lessons for children with special needs. The program runs August- May,  Mon.-Fri. 9am-12noon.
-After School Care-August-June, -Mon.-Fri., 3-6pm.
-Summer Day Camp-Starts in June- August, 7am-6pm. Helping staff run the program, helping with camp activities, providing support to campers with special needs.

ROTARACT

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family. Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.  All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and all Rotaract clubs have access to the many resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

VOCES LATINAS

This is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower the Hispanic/Latino community, using education as the tool. We offer various classes, and provide childcare for all classes. We need volunteers for childcare, data entry, and computer assistance. The schedule is as follows. Need for volunteers have asteriks.
