Fellowship Program

Fellow Applications for 2009-2010 are due May 1, 2009

Program Overview

The Student Affairs Fellowship Program serves as a unique opportunity for cross-training within the division, by exposing professional staff to management and supervisory practices and decision making processes that occur within two Student Affairs service areas other than their own.

Program Goals

One of UNCW’s Core Values is Student Development, and goal number two of the Division of Student Affairs is to Develop Quality Staff.  The Division of Student Affairs has created the Student Affairs Fellowship Program to provide professional staff exposure to service areas outside their own, to help expand their knowledge and skills, and to enhance their ability to provide exceptional support and service to UNCW students. Optimally, the program will also help retain Student Affairs employees who may assume future leadership positions within the division.

Program Objectives

How the Program Works

Professional Staff in the Division of Student Affairs who are interested in participating in the Student Affairs Fellowship Program must fill out the Fellowship Application and submit it by the due date. The Professional Development Committee reviews the applications, selects five to seven Fellows for the upcoming academic year, and assigns Fellows to their two (one per semester) Host Departments.

The Fellow and Host Department's mentor complete an Experiential Agreement which outlines the learning objectives of the Fellow, the Host Department and its Host Mentor. The Experiential Agreement outlines how the Host Department and Fellow will work together to provide the Fellow with a comprehensive experience associated with their functional area.

Fellows will meet with each other throughout the year to share their experiences and then present their experiences at the Fellows Symposium at the conclusion of the academic year.

How to Become a Student Affairs Fellow

1. Review the list of Host Departments and select your top four choices.

2. Download and fill out the Fellowship Application. Have your supervisor sign the application.

3. Submit the application by the due date: Applications for 2009-2010 are due May 1, 2009

4. If accepted into the Fellowship Program, contact your Host Department's mentor to schedule a meeting to discuss your Fellowship and to complete the Experiential Agreement.
