When is tuition due?
Tuition for students who registered for courses during pre-registration is due August 6th at 4:00 PM. Tuition for students who register for courses after pre-registration is due on August 27th at 4:00PM. For more information about tuition, visit the Student Accounts and Cashier's Office web site.
Will/when will my student receive a bill?
Only Pre-registered students receive bills.
New online E-bill information:
Each month, all students with an outstanding balance will receive an e-mail notification to their University e-mail account stating that their E-bill is available online to view and print. Currently enrolled students that have a balance due (shown as "Pay this amount" on the E-bill) will receive an e-mail notice from Studentaccounts@uncw.edu that an E-bill is available for viewing. When you receive the notice, you can access your bill via the SeaNet portal. You are responsible for checking your e-mail for your electronic bill notification and for making your payment on time.
You can pay online using E-bill, forward the statement to your parents or a third party, or print a copy of the statement and mail the payment. An E-bill reflects the charges and credits applied to your account as of the date the bill was created. To view the most current student account information (subsequent charges and payments), the student can log into the SeaNet portal select " Student Services and Financial Aid" , "Student Records" and "E-billing and Account Information". How/When does my student get a parking pass?
Students are eligible to sign up for a parking pass as soon as they register for classes. All student vehicles must be registered annually at the beginning of the fall semester or within 48 hours after the first class of the fall/spring semester and both summer sessions. Vehicles of students who register for classes after the beginning of the fall/ spring semesters and both summer sessions must be registered within 48 hours of that date.
Students can register by visiting the Auxiliary Services Office located in the back of the Warwick Center or by going online to SeaPort, clicking on the student tab, and clicking on “Get a Parking Permit” under Parking Services.
All students must provide current automobile insurance information for liability purposes for any type of permit, including temporary permits, in accordance with state law. For more information about parking passes, visit the Parking and Transportation web site.
Where can my student park on campus?
Resident students are assigned permits by zones within their residential area. They may not park in another residential zone at any time. Resident students may park in commuter zones between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday-Friday and on weekends. Residential students may park in faculty/staff spaces between 4 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays and on weekends unless the lot is otherwise reserved. All other rules such as service vehicle parking, handicapped, reserved, and fire lane must be observed at all times.
Commuter students are assigned permits by zones within the commuter area. They are restricted to their commuter zone Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Commuter students cannot park in residential zones at any time. Commuter students may park in other commuter zones Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 a.m., and on weekends. Commuter students may park in faculty/staff spaces between 4 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays and on weekends unless the lot is otherwise reserved. All other rules such as service vehicle parking, handicapped, reserved, and fire lane must be observed at all times. What should my student do if he/she receives a citation/ticket?
Students wishing to appeal a parking or traffic citation should initiate an appeal by filing a Parking or Traffic Citation Appeal Form with the Auxiliary Services/Parking and Transportation Office. These appeal forms can be obtained at the Parking and Transportation office or printing the Parking or Traffic Citation Appeal form (PDF) from the Parking and Transportation Web site. All appeals must be initiated within seven (7) days of the citation issue date. Students can pay a parking ticket at the cashiers office with cash or check. When/how does my student apply for housing?

When does my student move in?
Move in for Freshman and Transfer Students is Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 8:00am-1:00pm. Move in for Returning Students is Monday, August 18, 2008 from 10:00am-3:00pm. Move in for Seahawk Village and Seahawk Landing residents begins on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 8:00am. For more information about move-in, visit the Housing and Residence Life web site.
Can my student move in early or late?
Early/late arrivals are dealt with on an individual basis. Contact Housing and Residence Life to ask about an early or late arrival.
Can my student change room assignments?
Students may request room changes beginning around the second week of each semester. The dates and times for room changes will be widely advertised once the semester begins. Students interested in a room change may do so by completing a room change form at the Office of Housing and Residence Life. What kind of furniture is provided in each room?
Each room in all Residence halls contains a loftable/bunkable bed, a dresser, and a closet.
Is alcohol/smoking permitted in the residence halls?
The University of North Carolina Wilmington abides by North Carolina State laws and statutes. Students 21 years of age and older may possess and consume beverages within the privacy of their bedroom or private living area
In accordance with University Policy, alcoholic beverages may not be consumed in public areas, including hallways, lounges, apartment balconies/porches, or outside the buildings. The sale of any alcoholic beverage on the UNCW campus is prohibited. Students are not permitted to possess kegs, or any other common source container of alcohol including beer bongs in the Residence Life area. Students are not allowed to construct or own a table used for the purpose of beer pong.Residents who are under 21 years of age are not allowed to host people with alcohol regardless of the guest's age. No guest of a resident will be allowed to bring in alcohol when visiting student residences. The Office of Housing and Residence Life staff reserves the right to stop people from bringing alcohol into the building(s).
The University of North Carolina Wilmington is a smoke-free campus as it applies to all academic, student support and residential buildings. This means that smoking is not permitted in buildings at any time. Further, there will be a 50 feet no-smoke zone at all residence hall entrances.
Can my student designate a roommate choice?
Students can request a specific roommate, but this is not guaranteed. Roommate assignments depend on the time that the housing contract is completed and the residence hall preferences.

Can/when can my student join a fraternity or sorority?
Interfraternity Council
Formal rRecruitment occurs September 15-20. The Fraternity Recruitment Forum will take place on September 15 at 7pm in the Burney Center. Come by to learn about Fraternity Life, the benefits of joining a fraternity, and meet members of each fraternity on campus.
National Panhellenic Council
Formal recruitment is September 2-8. Fall panhellenic sorority recruitment is a mutually selective process between you and the eight sororities we have on campus. You will get a chance to meet all the sororities throughout the week, progressively narrowing down the groups to the chapter that fits you the best. You will get to see various sides of the chapters, from community service, to their sisterhood, and finally a night to introduce you to the principles that each of the chapters were founded upon. At the end of the recruitment events, you will receive an invitation to become a member in one of UNCW's sororities.
National Pan-Hellenic Council
NPHC follows a process called intake. If you are interested in an NPHC chapter, take the time to do your research on the organization, attend their programs and introduce yourself to the members. My student is sick, what should he/she do?
The Abrons Student Health Center is located in Westside Hall on the second floor. Each visit to the health center is free of charge with the exception of prescriptions and lab fees. Each student pays for Health Services with their tuition and fees. The pharmacy located in the health center does not take insurance, but prescriptions can be taken to outside pharmacies. What meal plan options are available for my student?
Meal plan accounts may be used at Wagoner Hall and at the Hawks Nest for the Dine 'til Nine program. The meal plan account is a declining account, which deducts one meal per swipe.
There a numerous meal plan options for resident and off-campus students. Every resident student is required to purchase a resident meal plan. For more information on your meal plans, please visit the Meal Plan information on the Campus Dining Web site.
Food Dollars is another option. Food Dollars work as a debit card and may be used at any food service location on campus, but may NOT be used in vending machines. Food Dollars can be used at any dining location on campus. Food Dollars are like cash, but the benefit of purchasing Food Dollars is that your purchase is tax free. Food Dollars are rolled over from the Fall to Spring Semester. Any unused Food Dollars at the end of the Spring Semester are lost. Food Dollars are also rolled over from Summer I to Summer II. Again, you lose any unused Food Dollars at the end of Summer II.
When/where can my student get his/her dining card? How does it work? Roll over?
The meal plan is on the student’s UNCW One Card, which also serves as the student's identification card. Students should get this card during orientation or in Auxiliary Services. Auxilliary Services is located in the back of the Warwick Center.
Do meals plans roll over to the next semester?
Meals do not roll over from semester to semester. Food dollars roll over from fall to spring, but not to the summer. Seahawk Bucks stay on the One Card until they are used.
Can my student change his/her meal plan?
Students can change their meal plan ONE TIME within the first 10 days after the start of classes. They can do so online or in Auxiliary Services located in the back of the Warwick Center. Back to Top

Does my student have a mailbox on campus?
All freshmen and on-campus students have a mailbox on campus.
How does my student get their mailbox number?
If your student lives on campus they will receive their mailbox number in their on campus housing assignment through the mail. Your student can also get their mailbox number and information by visiting the on campus post office located in the Fisher University Union and presenting their One Card.
How do I send my student mail or a package?
All students will have a Campus Box # specific to their mailing address. Just address the package to the student including this number and the post office will hold the package, put a notice in the student’s mail box, and the student will be able to pick up their package at the post office.

Now that my student has been admitted what do I need to do next?
1) Pay the enrollment deposit of $100 to Admissions.
2) Pay the $100 housing deposit to Housing and Residence Life, if your student plans to live on-campus.
3) Register and pay for orientation.
All these payments can be made through SeaPort.
What is the different between the Higher One card and the UNCW One Card?
The UNCW One Card is a student's identification card. The One Card allows students access to their meal plan, the library, residence halls, Seahawk Bucks, community discounts and more. There is a fee to replace this card.
The Higher One Card is used to access refunds given to students throughout their entire time at UNCW. This card is only sent to students when they first apply to the university. There is a fee to replace this card.
What is the difference between SeaPort and SeaNet?
SeaPort is the student portal and access to online classes. SeaNet contains student and course information, registration & payment.
Are there ATMs on campus?
There are three ATMs on campus located beside the Warwick Center. The ATMs includes Cashpoints, Bank of America and Wachovia.
What is FERPA?
FERPA stands for the Family Educations Rights and Privacy Act. Please follow this link to read detailed information about FERPA.

Will my student grades be sent home?
No, grades are available to the student through SEAPORT.
My student needs to miss class what do I tell him/her to do?
If a student needs to miss a class they should talk directly to the instructor. If it is an emergency and there is no time to reach the instructor call the Dean of Students office at 962-3119.The Dean's office will contact the student's instructors. Note that the student needs to follow up with the instructor. The Dean of Students office can not excuse absences only the instructor can make that decision.
Does the University have a smoking policy?
Starting June 1, 2008, UNCW has adopted a 25 feet smoking policy. Smoking is prohibited in all UNCW buildings. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of any building entrance. This will be encouraged by the placement of tobacco waste receptacles and appropriate signage. This policy will be enforced through publicity and positive social pressure. Campus community members are encouraged to confront people violating the policy by pointing out where smoking is allowed. In the future, repeat violations may be addressed. Repeated and flagrant violations could be addressed by the Office of the Dean of Students or Human Resources, if deemed necessary. How do I add money to my student's UNCW One Card? What do I do if my student loses their UNCW One Card?
The UNCW One Card is designed to make your student’s campus experience more enjoyable by providing many services through a single card. If you would like to add money to your student’s Seahawk Bucks account the fast and easy way, just click https://uncwonecard.blackboard.com. The secure site allows you to deposit funds in amounts of $20 or more through the use of any Visa/Master Card or debit card. The money will immediately be added to your student’s account for use on campus at the UNCW Bookstore, vending and laundry machines, post office, pharmacy, etc. It’s simple. It’s safe. It’s convenient. And it virtually eliminates the need to carry cash on campus.

Please emphasize to your student the care he/she needs to take with the UNCW One Card. Your student needs to protect this card just like a bank card.
