Program Structure
UNCW Teaching Fellows utilizes a seminar foundation to provide students with opportunities to develop their skills to become the best future educators. Each semester students will explore different topics vital to the educational field.
Freshman Year is designed to orient students to college and teaching. The students enjoy a range of exceptional experiences that help them adjust to university life: freshman/sophomore mentor program, Pen Pal Project, freshman Teaching Fellows seminar, Discovery, and Teaching Fellows extracurricular activities.
Sophomore Year provides the students an in-depth look at the teaching profession with a focus on diverse learners. Students encounter a range of classroom learning environments and instructional strategies. Students engage in a year-long internship. At the end of the year, they develop a Two-Year Professional Portfolio.
Junior Year focuses on the examination of exemplary schools and teachers through classroom observations and reflective discussions. They also explore the actions schools take to successfully meet the challenges of the No Child Left Behind mandates. Juniors plan and host the December Social.
Senior Year prepares students for student teaching internship and beyond. The senior seminar focuses on teacher leadership and professional development and are provided an array of insights regarding their futures as professionals. Seniors plan and host the Senior Celbration.
