Dear Faculty and Staff,
I have come to realize that giving back is part of the culture here at UNCW. Throughout my college experience, I have witnessed the generosity of employees – from the Housing and Residence Life staff that made me feel like a part of the UNCW family, to Dr. Magnus in the Cameron School of Business who generously gave her time to identifying opportunities outside the classroom for students to grow personally and professionally. I cannot begin to describe how helpful, engaged and willing the faculty and staff are at UNCW. I have been privileged to work with so many people that are not only experts in their subject matter, but genuinely care. It is what employees have given out of their own pockets, however, that has had the most impact on my time here.
I have been told from day one of college two things. The first came from my parents, “You have to pay for half of your college tuition.” The second came from the government “You do not qualify for financial aid.” This was a very daunting place to be as an 18 year old. However, through the generous support from donors, I have been able to earn scholarships like the ITSD Merit Scholarship. I am so grateful to those employees who made the commitment to give their hard-earned dollars in support students like me. Collectively, their gifts have enabled me to achieve my career goals by allowing me the time to focus on my academics and extracurricular goals.
Please consider joining the 631 employees who supported UNCW last year and help “grow the university your way.” Participation is what matters most in the Faculty Staff Campaign, as all gifts add up to have a profound impact on our campus. Almost 100 percent of all employees in ITSD gave back to the university last year, and for that I am forever grateful. Their gifts, no matter the size, added up to afford me experiences that will give me an edge against the competition in the job market.
I hope you will make UNCW one of your philanthropic priorities this year and encourage your colleagues to participate as well.
