The UNCW Fund is an unrestricted source of funding, which means the university can put gifts to use where they are needed most and, therefore, will have the most impact.
Unrestricted gifts allow the university the ability to take on new opportunities, strengthen ongoing programs and meet immediate and critical academic needs that are not met by other funding (such as scholarships for students, lab equipment for classrooms and assisting with faculty research).
Gifts to the UNCW Fund are often the only source of discretionary funds available to deans and administrators to respond to new opportunities and unmet needs.
Gifts provide direct support to academic programs, scholarship and fellowship funds, computer labs and other technological updates and teaching and research awards throughout campus.
Priorities for 2009-2010 Academic Year:
Student Support - merit and diversity scholarships, departmental scholarships, funds that support student research efforts and applied learning experiences
Academic Support - endowments to benefit a college, a school or a specific academic program such as the Honors Scholar program or the Office of International Programs
Faculty Support - endowed distinguished professorships, funds for faculty research and development, scientific and technology resources
Regional Support - scholarships for undergraduate students active in our community, funds to support our youth development initiatives including camps and after-school programs, funds to support business, entrepreneurial and emerging venture development in the area
Support for International Programs - study abroad scholarships, scholarships to assist international students to attend UNCW, support for faculty research and development around the world
Last year, unrestricted gifts to the UNCW Fund supported: scholarships, faculty development, technology enhancements and alumni relations programs and outreach.
