Parents Campaign

UNCW has a longstanding tradition of parent giving.  Philanthropic support from parents allows UNCW to provide high-quality classroom instruction, outstanding research opportunities, rewarding community service projects and experiences designed to create the best possible learning environment for their children.

Gifts to the UNCW Parent Opportunity Fund are unrestricted gifts that will be used at the discretion of the Chancellor to develop programs, bring speakers to campus, support technology upgrades and create other initiatives that will support the following endeavors:

In 2008-2009 nearly 3,500 parents contributed to the university totaling approximately $250,000.  Below are some examples of how their gifts made a difference:

Supported the Metropolitan Opera HD series that the Division for Public Service and the Music Department are offering in fall ’09 and spring ’10. The money is being used to purchase the necessary hardware and software to accept the satellite signal and pump it to the Lumina Theater.

Supported “Synergy” programming
(for films, equipment, etc.) which is UNCW’s Common Reading Experience for all UNCW students (particularly first year students) that provides an introduction to academic expectations and intellectual engagement, a common experience with peers and faculty, opportunities for self-reflection and critical thinking, and a powerful, meaningful, and FUN experience

Supported the “Healthy Hawk Challenge” – which is a free fitness and wellness program designed to make students adopt healthier habits

Supported “Seahawks are Good Neighbors” program which teaches off-campus students how to be respectful and safe members of the local community

All gifts to the university, no matter their size or designation, help us to sustain a level of excellence that defines the UNCW experience.
