UNCW Foundation Fundraising Goals

Chancellor's Merit Scholarship Fund

The major fundraising initiative of the UNCW Foundation Board is to raise funds in support of the Chancellor's Merit Scholarship Fund.

Many universities, both public and private, seek to recruit high academic ability students to attend their institutions, and those institutions use merit scholarships as recruitment incentives. The establishment of the Chancellor's Merit Scholarship Fund is providing UNCW with the ability to compete with other universities for high achieving students, which helps raise the overall quality of the academic environment and increases awareness of UNCW as an exceptional place for the leaders of tomorrow to study and grow.

The Chancellor's Merit Scholarship Fund provides scholarship awards to current and prospective students based on documented academic ability or demonstrated academic talent. Financial need is not a factor in the selection. Undergraduate recipients of these scholarships are determined by the Director of Admissions, who utilizes merit scholarships to assist in recruiting and retaining top academic students whose high school achievements indicate that they will experience a high level of success in their college studies. Graduate recipients are determined by the dean of the Graduate School, who uses merit scholarships to encourage highly motivated and talented students to pursue their graduate studies and research projects at UNCW.

For more information on establishing a scholarship or contributing to a scholarship, please call the Division of University Advancement at 910-962-3751 or email Vice Chancellor Mary Gornto .
