Exciting new construction is underway at UNCW. In addition to a new Cultural Arts building and Student Union facilities, there are many more projects in the works. UNCW has more than $144 million in active construction projects on campus that will result in a cumulative economic impact of approximately $540 million. These efforts garnered praise when UNCW received the "Best in the Southeast" designation for 2005 by the Princeton Review.
With the passage of the $3.1 billion N.C. Higher Education Facilities Bond issue, UNCW is undergoing the largest construction effort in its history. With its $108 million, UNCW has completed one classroom building, which houses the Watson School of Education, and is constructing two others, a cultural arts building and the Computer Information Systems building. Eight existing structures are being renovated. MORE
UNCW broke ground for its newest student housing project on April 28. This new complex, a public/private venture, will have six three-story apartment buildings which will provide 524 upperclassmen with housing in a combination of two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments.
A 70,536 sq. ft. student center is under construction and will be connected to the current Student Union and the Burney Student Support Center by a covered colonnade. The $31 million construction and renovation project is funded by student fees.
