Math and Reading
The UNCW Watson School of Education offers tutoring for a child in new math or reading. One-on-one tutoring is offered by UNCW teacher education majors who participate in the tutorial labs as part of their coursework are supervised and monitored by education directors.
The Betty Stike Educational Laboratory, also known as the The Ed Lab, provides tutoring in math and reading for elementary students. These tutorials may use a wide variety of strategies, including diverse reading materials, interesting manipulatives, state of the art technology and even games and cooking to stimulate your child’s imagination and support the learning process in a fun, interactive environment. The Ed Lab also offers special education testing for K-12 students in the fall and special education tutoring in the spring.
Once your child is enrolled and your needs are assessed, a tutor will be assigned who will contact you to arrange a tutoring schedule. All sessions occur on campus and you will need to arrange transportation to and from the tutorial. There are even summer sessions that can enrich your child’s performance for the coming school year.
The costs are very affordable and are based on the number of hours of service. You can even enroll online!

SAT/ESL Prep
UNCW offers tutorials for the GRE, SAT, ACT, LSAT, GMAT, or GED exams led by UNCW instructors in online courses known as WebU. Sponsored by the Division of Public Service and Continuing Education, these Test Prep courses normally run for 6 weeks, and require that they have online access to a server. It is school, so they will have quizzes at the end of each lesson and a final. There may be some hands-on activities that are required as well. Still have questions? Find out more about the courses on the FAQ page or call (910) 962-7194.
